A well-known building materials enterprise monitoring system management solution

    Customer feedback

The Synology monitoring solution is a very efficient solution we have used. With a centralized management system (CMS), it is easy to manage all 2000 cameras deployed in 350 stores. This solution is very cost effective and helps us ensure the safety of our valuable products.

    Organization Background

A well-known building materials company, founded in 1921, has a long history of more than 90 years and is a family business. A pioneer in the French building materials industry, it has 350 stores, 57 departments, 6 modern logistics platforms, 33 construction sites and 3,600 employees.

    Challenges facing

Over the years, Chausson Matériaux's stores have been easily stolen at night and on weekends, resulting in considerable financial losses. To protect against such risks, each store uses its own remote service-based alarm system. When an alarm is triggered, a guard comes to check the situation. But this is an outdated system. Many times the guards arrive too late, the assets have been stolen, and the cost of the system is too high. In view of the recurrence of such unfortunate circumstances, Chausson Matériaux decided to find a cost-effective, centrally managed and flexible security solution. They need to monitor the entire monitoring system, covering 350 stores and 2,000 webcams from the French headquarters to Toulouse. More importantly, they need a monitoring solution that not only prevents potential theft but also prevents it from happening again.

    Solutions

The main goal is to deploy Synology's hardware and software solutions to all stores by the end of 2018. To meet growing demand, they need a scalable, centralized security system.

To meet the company's requirements, the Synology RackStation RS18018xs+ is used as the primary server in the Centralized Management System (CMS) architecture. The rack unit is housed at the headquarters and receives real-time surveillance video from all cameras from 350 stores in France.

Each NAS installed in the store is managed as a CMS recording server. These devices include the DiskStations DS216j, DS216play, DS218play, and DS218j, which can connect up to six to eight webcams, record at full HD and 12 FPS, and use motion detection settings. Recording is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing continuous monitoring of the entire business.

In addition, each recording server automatically sends real-time streaming images of 2000 cameras at low resolution to save bandwidth on the CMS host NAS RS18017xs+.

There are currently 100 DiskStations deployed, one for each store. More than 100 stores are now safe under the protection of Synology and Serveillance Station. With an expandable monitoring system, other stores will be equipped with Synology solutions by the end of 2018.

Monitoring can allow three guards to work on shifts every night and weekend. Through the e-map application on the CMS, they can access different electronic maps displayed on the screen and be able to monitor 350 stores. Therefore, when someone invades, the guard can quickly and easily detect the exact location of the intruder at which store and at which time.

When the motion detection is triggered, the alarm will be displayed through a pop-up window. The guards can use the VoIP phone to directly connect to the store, use the built-in speaker to discourage the intruder, and also notify the police to go to the store.
